No local church or denomination--no matter how big or influential, well-known or financially able by nature of its material resources or its people--is the entire house of God as the Temple in Jerusalem was once portrayed. Whenever and wherever we gather—any two or more of us together in Jesus’ name--it should be understood that we are being built into God’s spiritual house, that He has chosen to dwell in us and make Himself known in and through our relationships with Him and with one another. While all gatherings of Christ have certain things in common, the time, place and people amongst whom God is revealing Himself will have certain emphases, colors and flavors. How does God express Himself in and through us?

The Church at Philippi in Macedonia was planted by the Apostle Paul about AD 53 and it appears he visited them again in AD 60. The Philippians were greatly attached to Paul, supported his ministry and sent one of their pastors—Ephaphroditus-- to care for him when he was imprisoned in Rome. This letter was sent to the Philippians by the hand of Epaphroditus when Paul sent him back to Philippi in the winter of AD 62. While the Philippian believers may have only had this letter along with a Greek translation of the Old Testament scriptures, Paul’s focus on the work of God in believers as they lived through Christ was enough because they emphasized a life of love and faith over knowledge and works. How might such an emphasis impact our community?

While there are many books and tools that try to help you understand the Bible, I've not come across any that outline what "the teaching of the apostles" (Acts 2:42) or "the elementary teachings of Christ" (Hebrews 6:1-2) is all about. This begins with an introduction to a six-part series that will help you to know these teachings like the back of your hand!

The Book of Acts, or as otherwise known, The Acts of the Apostles, is actually kind of misnamed. Perhaps it might have been better named The Acts Of The Holy Spirit. In any case, I think that this is a great book to read over and over again by those who love God. I hope that this somewhat expositional treatment of the Book of Acts will become a source of blessing and encouragement for you!

In Acts 2:42-47 the Apostle Luke depicts for us the lifestyle of the Early Church through six faith activities to which he observed their devotion. In our MiniChurches we encourage you to devote yourself to meet at least once a month, in groups of at least two or 3, and to devote yourselves to at least one of these faith activities when you gather. My prayer is that this series of six videos would provide you with some useful tools!
